The Holidays // a DIY christmas village

IMG_3043.jpg
How cute are these little houses! The best part is you don't even need to be crafty to make a little village of your own like the one you see here. A little bit of paint, a few paint brushes, pretty ribbon and a handful of pre made wooden bird houses flipped around.

Add a few faux trees and twinkle lights and you have a custom DIY Christmas Village!

I have been on the hunt for the perfect little Christmas Village that didn't cost a fortune. There was a specific look that I had in mind, for the life of me I couldn't find exactly what I wanted in any store, so I decided to make my own.

A trip to Joann Fabrics and $30 bucks later I had all the makings for my own little village.

Pretty Ribbon, buttons, pom pom's, glitter- anything goes when designing your own village.

I went with a minimalist village- white and gold // super simple and pretty.

Pick a variety of houses in all shapes and sizes to start with. I also recommend purchasing an extra house as your "trial" house. My first house I painted was definitely a trial and error. Painting a demo house will help you streamline the design which will help get all the other houses spot on.

I painted my houses white all over. One coat, I liked the rustic look one coat gave the house- but put as many coats on and in whatever color. Make your houses all one color, or each one a different color.

My secondary color was gold. I love the look of white and gold during the Holidays and I knew the metallic gold I selected would shimmer in the twinkle lights I planned to display at the base of my Village.

I then painted each house a little different - ombre', stripped roofs, ribbon detail.

Play around and if you don't like a design simply paint it solid!

This project was super simple and fun.

Easy enough to do with the littles or for a girl's night!
